ABOUT DIANA RIGG Dame Diana Rigg is highly acclaimed actress in theatre and television. Though more famous for her role as Emma Peel in the 60's television show, The Avengers, Rigg got her start at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1955.
In 1959 she signed with the Royal Shakespeare Company with roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream and King Lear.
In 1965 Rigg auditioned for the part of Emma Peel, a role that was a delight to many fans with her portrayal of the capable, independent woman. However her stint on the television show only lasted two years because of problems with management.
Moving away from television, Rigg devoted herself to film and the stage appearing in The Assassination Bureau and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a James Bond film. She also had roles in The Hospital and Theater of Blood. She earned a Tony Award for her role in Abelard and Heloise.
Rigg lived a more quiet existence in the 80s, preferring to devote herself to her family. It was the 90's that saw a burst of creativity with the Almeida Theater.
